The Usage For Suction Devices
Jun 02, 2018

In medicine, devices are sometimes necessary to create suction. Suction may be used to clear the airway of blood, saliva, vomit, or other secretions so that a patient may breathe. Suctioning can prevent pulmonary aspiration, which can lead to lung infections. In pulmonary hygiene, suction is used to remove fluids from the airways, to facilitate breathing and prevent growth of microorganisms. In surgery suction can be used to remove blood from the area being operated on to allow surgeons to view and work on the area. Suction may also be used to remove blood that has built up within the skull after an intracranial hemorrhage. Suction devices may be mechanical hand pumps or battery or electrically operated mechanisms.

Suction machines are appliances that are used to remove substances such as blood, saliva, mucus, and vomit from a person's airway. A portable suction unit can prevent pulmonary aspiration and facilitate breathing. Suction machine supplies include bacteria filters, collection canisters, and aspirator tubing kits. The medical aspirator prevents fluids and other contaminants from entering and damaging the pump. These accessories will make caring for yourself and your medical suction device more convenient. Using a vacuum created by the machine, secretions are collected through tubing connected to a collection canister. Collected secretions contain bacterial and viral microbes. Thorough, frequent cleaning is essential to prevent the growth and spread of germs. Cleaning of the collection container after each use is considered good practice by health-care workers. Wash and dry hands and gather supplies. Put on gloves and other personal protective equipment as desired. Remove suction catheter and tubing from the collection canister. Disconnect the canister from the machine. Take the canister into the bathroom. Remove the lid from the container and dispose of the collected secretions into the toilet. Flush the toilet. Rinse the collection canister and lid with hot water.

For those with respiratory problems, a Compressor Nebulizer System is used to deliver medicated mist to open up the airway and facilitate breathing. We carry a large selection of medical compressors, including a hand-held system, a pediatric nebulizer, and nebulizer supplies.
